{"id":4823,"date":"2020-09-24T17:50:00","date_gmt":"2020-09-24T16:50:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost:10003\/?p=4823"},"modified":"2020-09-24T17:50:00","modified_gmt":"2020-09-24T16:50:00","slug":"2020-21-cocoa-freight-negotiation-begins-in-accra","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vigorous-feistel.187-124-37-238.plesk.page\/?p=4823","title":{"rendered":"2020\/21 Cocoa Freight Negotiation begins in Accra"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Cocoa Marketing Company (CMC), together with the Ghana Shippers\u2019 Authority (GSA) and major shipping lines have begun the cocoa freight negotiation conference in Accra for the 2020\/2021 crop season.<\/p>\n<p>The conference which began on 24th September,2020 is being hosted for the second time in Ghana while past negotiations for the last two decades were held in Europe.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4831\" src=\"http:\/\/localhost:10003\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/cmc.jpeg\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>Managing Director of the CMC, Mr. Vincent Okyere Akomeah giving the welcome address<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The one-day conference would provide the platform for the CMC in collaboration with the GSA and the shipping lines serving Ghana\u2019s cocoa trade to negotiate the freight rate and conditions of shipment of cocoa for the coming season.<\/p>\n<p>In a welcome address, the Managing Director of the CMC, Mr. Vincent Okyere Akomeah, disclosed that Ghana shipped over 500,000 tonnes of cocoa during the 2019\/2020 cocoa season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is significant to note that 52% out of this volume was shipped from Takoradi, 42% in Tema and 6% from Kumasi. This is reflecting the fact that about 45% of total cocoa production in Ghana is coming from the Western Region.\u201d, he explained.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4826\" src=\"http:\/\/localhost:10003\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/CMC-1.jpg\">He encouraged more shipping lines to load cocoa from the Takoradi Port since only three shipping lines are currently carrying cocoa from there. The shipping lines were assured of incentives such as greater volumes and free empty container terminal at Kejebril to facilitate their operation from Takoradi.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe anticipate that Ghana\u2019s cocoa exports for the coming cocoa season would increase to about 700,000 tonnes. We therefore expect greater volume of about 75% shipment by ending of February 2021.
