{"id":41140,"date":"2016-07-16T22:53:03","date_gmt":"2016-07-16T21:53:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost:10003\/?p=24"},"modified":"2016-07-16T22:53:03","modified_gmt":"2016-07-16T21:53:03","slug":"ghanas-preparations-cwv-implementation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vigorous-feistel.187-124-37-238.plesk.page\/?p=41140","title":{"rendered":"Ghana&#8217;s Preparations to CWV Implementation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In 2015, it became necessary for Ghana to consider the amendment to the SOLAS convention relating to Chapter VI Part A, regulation 2 on cargo information and the IMO guidelines relating to the Verified Gross Mass (VGM) of a packed Container.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>THE ROLE OF GHANA SHIPPERS&#8217; AUTHORITY<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Ghana Shippers Authority is working together with other stakeholders to ensure that by July 1, 2016, the implementation date of the VGM, shippers would be aware and well prepared.<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong><u>MEASURES TAKEN SO FAR<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Meeting with Stakeholders to identify the role of each stakeholder as far back as 2015;<\/li>\n<li>Presentations and talks on CWV in all the programs of Regional Shipper Committee meetings in the Ten Regions; and to specific export groups.<\/li>\n<li>Rolled up a programme to hold Stakeholder forum in all the ten regions of Ghana for shippers by the end of the first quarter of 2016 having already in 2015;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n\t<strong>PUBLICITY OF THE CWV<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Publications of an Article on CVW in the Authority&#8217;s quarterly Shipping Review<\/li>\n<li>Preparation of brochures as guide for shippers<\/li>\n<li>Developed Frequently Asked Questions(FAQs)<\/li>\n<li>Notices in the Daily News papers, and radio programs<\/li>\n<li>Sensitizing by way of information to the Ghana Missions Abroad for Ghanaian Exporters<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n\t<strong>ROLE OF EACH MAJOR STAKEHOLDER<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Identification of Competent Authority for certification and calibration of scales, weigh bridges, lifting equipments etc. Ghana Standards Authority<\/li>\n<li>Ghana Standards to provide an inventory of weigh bridges, weigh stations, weighing scales across the ten (10) regions of Ghana.<\/li>\n<li>Freight Forwarders To take an inventory on Container Freight Stations (CFS) with weigh facility<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8211; The Ports and Harbours Authority has designated area(s) to install a weighing facility close to the port to assist shippers without the Verified Gross Mass (VGM)<\/li>\n<li>&#8211; National Legislation to be done by the Ghana Maritime Authority<\/li>\n<li>Ghana Shippers Authority should sensitize, inform and provide shippers with weighing equipment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n<strong>CONSTITUTION OF TECHNICAL COMMITTEE (TC)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Technical Committee was established in 2015 to bring out technical guidelines to be used in Ghana-\u00a0 Members &#8211; Ghana Standards Authority, Ghana Shippers Authority, Ghana Maritime Authority<\/li>\n<li>Ghana Shippers Authority has started visiting shippers with weighing facility in all the regions<\/li>\n<li>ROAD MAP- developed for the entire project with time lines to be terminated by May 2016.<\/li>\n<li>Proposed testing in June of the guidelines.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n<strong>IMPLEMENTING COMMITTEE<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p> The Ministry of Transport has instituted an implementing committee to take care of the operational measures, the costs, method of weighing, and other procedures.<\/p>\n<p>\nDownload the list of certified companies<a class=\"download_link red\" href=\"http:\/\/localhost:10003\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/CERTIFIED-WEIGH-BRIDGES.pdf\"> >> here << <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In 2015, it became necessary for Ghana to consider the amendment to the SOLAS convention relating to Chapter VI Part A, regulation 2 on cargo information and the IMO guidelines<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":14,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_monsterinsights_skip_tracking":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[37,38,24],"tags":[474,521,1070,1979,2208,2212],"class_list":["post-41140","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-international-news","category-national-news","category-news","tag-container-weight-verification","tag-cwv","tag-imo","tag-solas","tag-verified-gross-mass","tag-vgm"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v22.9 -
