The businesses were trained in the registration process under the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) to enable them to take advantage of the export market, and to\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">export\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\" lang=\"EN-US\">duty-free<\/span><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">\u00a0and quota free within Africa.<\/span><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">\u00a0<span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\" lang=\"EN-US\">This was done as part of efforts by the two organizations to build the capacity of businesses in the northern part of the country to understand the \u2018Rules of Origin\u2019 regime in the AfCFTA and by that, position them to expand their operations on the continent.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\" lang=\"EN-US\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-35980\" src=\"http:\/\/localhost:10003\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Tamale-GSA2-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100%\" height=\"100%\" \/>The training which was held on Tuesday\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">18th April 2023\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">was the\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">second in the series of capacity building workshops on AfCFTA\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\" lang=\"EN-US\">after a successful event in Accra on Friday\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">10th March 2023<\/span><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\" lang=\"EN-US\">. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\" lang=\"EN-US\">Speaking at the event, the CEO of the GSA, Ms. Benonita Bismarck noted that studies conducted have revealed that <span class=\"x_normaltextrun\"><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">African countries stand to benefit enormously from the AfCFTA; therefore Ghanaian businesses, especially\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises<\/span><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\"><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\" lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0(MSMEs) must be equipped and positioned to trade favorably under the regime.\u00a0She said, \u201cIt is for this reason that this workshop has been organized\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\"><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\" lang=\"EN-US\">to build the capacity of MSMEs in the shea business on market access options available under AfCFTA and the various tools being developed to engender inclusiveness in trading across the continent.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_paragraph\"><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\"><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\" lang=\"EN-US\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-35981 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/localhost:10003\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Tamale-GSA3-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100%\" height=\"100%\" \/><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_paragraph\"><span class=\"x_normaltextrun\"><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\" lang=\"EN-US\">The training provided information on the Shipper Complaints and Support Units of the GSA located at all the country\u2019s entry and exist borders to provide real time assistance and information to support the operations of cross border traders. \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">The Head of Export at the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce<\/span><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\" lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0and Industry (GNCCI)<\/span><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">, Mr. Charles Arthur Ntiri gave an<\/span><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\" lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0in-depth<\/span><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">\u00a0presentation on\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\" lang=\"EN-US\">the \u201c<\/span><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">Rules of Origin<\/span><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\" lang=\"EN-US\">\u201d <\/span><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\" lang=\"EN-US\">for<\/span><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">\u00a0exporting and imp<\/span><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">orting under AFCFTA<\/span><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\" lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0and urged the business to consult and seek assistance when the need arises.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-35979\" src=\"http:\/\/localhost:10003\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Tamale-GSA1-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100%\" height=\"100%\" \/>The training workshop\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\" lang=\"EN-US\">was<\/span><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">\u00a0a collaboration between\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\" lang=\"EN-US\">the Global Shea Alliance,\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">the GSA and the USAID Feed the Future Ghana Trade and Investment (GTI) Activity.<\/span><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\" lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0There are plans\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">to replicate the training for shea producers\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\" lang=\"EN-US\">in other parts of<\/span><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">\u00a0the\u00a0country.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Ghana Shippers\u2019 Authority (GSA) and the\u00a0Global Shea Alliance\u00a0have trained over 50 businesses operating in the shea industry in the North regions of the country.
