{"id":35820,"date":"2023-04-27T14:35:33","date_gmt":"2023-04-27T13:35:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost:10003\/?p=35820"},"modified":"2023-04-27T14:35:33","modified_gmt":"2023-04-27T13:35:33","slug":"africa-shippers-councils-deliberate-high-cost-of-cargo-transportation-in-ghana","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vigorous-feistel.187-124-37-238.plesk.page\/?p=35820","title":{"rendered":"Africa Shippers Councils Deliberate High Cost of Cargo Transportation in Ghana"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">The Union of African Shippers\u2019 Councils (UASC) have intensified efforts aimed at addressing the increasing cost of transportation in the shipping and logistics industry, a development attributed to the high cost of doing business at African ports.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">The World Bank estimates that transport costs in Sub-Saharan Africa averages 50% higher than other regions of the world, forming a significant proportion of the overall cost of goods. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-35822\" src=\"http:\/\/localhost:10003\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/DSC00061-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100%\" height=\"100%\" \/><\/span><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">To address the issue, the UASC\u2019s Committee of Experts on Transport Costs on 25<sup class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">th<\/sup>\u00a0and 26<sup class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">th<\/sup>\u00a0April 2023 converged in Ghana to discuss and\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">exchange ideas, share experiences, and explore ways to reduce the cost of transportation in international cargo. The move is to ultimately help in improving competitiveness of member states to mutually benefit port service providers and shippers with the role out of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">The meeting held at the Ghana Shippers\u2019 House in Accra was the third in a series of meetings by the Committee after which a report will be submitted to the General Assembly of the UASC for consideration in May 2023.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-35821\" src=\"http:\/\/localhost:10003\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/DSC00044-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100%\" height=\"100%\" \/><\/span><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">Chairman of the Standing Committee of Experts on Transport Costs Mr. Abayomi Adewuyi of the Nigerian Shippers\u2019 Council explained that the terms of reference for the two-day Committee meeting included a careful analysis of the factors resulting in the high cost of transportation of goods as well as recommendations to address them.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers\u2019 Authority (GSA) Ms. Benonita Bismarck updated the committee on measures being taken by the government of Ghana to address the incidence of high transport costs in international trade.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-35823\" src=\"http:\/\/localhost:10003\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/DSC00079-1-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100%\" height=\"100%\" \/><\/span><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">\u201cInitiatives aimed at improving the transport infrastructure in the country include the expansion of our seaports, construction and expansion of airports and international highways.
