{"id":33379,"date":"2023-01-26T11:54:08","date_gmt":"2023-01-26T11:54:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost:10003\/?p=33379"},"modified":"2023-01-26T11:54:08","modified_gmt":"2023-01-26T11:54:08","slug":"high-compliance-would-boost-the-fortunes-of-africas-shipping-sector-panellists","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vigorous-feistel.187-124-37-238.plesk.page\/?p=33379","title":{"rendered":"High Compliance Would Boost the Fortunes of Africa\u2019s Shipping Sector \u2013 Panellists"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">Engendering high compliance in the African shipping industry would greatly boost the fortunes of the sector, panellists at the Regional Maritime Stakeholder Conference on Global Best Practices in Vessel Clearance have said. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">Speaking on the topic: \u201cPositioning our Ports and Terminals for the Blue Economy and the AfCFTA Opportunity\u201d, the panellists agreed that there are vast opportunities to attract more vessels to the continent provided that\u00a0\u00a0strict adherence to regulations that govern the operations at the ports would be enforced.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-33381\" src=\"http:\/\/localhost:10003\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/ccc2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100%\" height=\"100%\" \/>According to them, this would go a long way to reduce delays in cargo and vessel clearance which would then lead to the growth and development of the sector.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">At the Stakeholder Conference held on Thursday 19<sup class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">th<\/sup>\u00a0January 2023 in Accra, the National Coordinator-Port Standing Task Team (PSTT) and Deputy Director of Nigeria\u2019s Shippers\u2019 Council (NSC), Mr. Moses Fadipe said that his outfit has begun reaping the benefits of strict compliance.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">He noted that last year, the strict enforcement and high compliance to port regulations by the NSC led to the reduction in the time required for a vessel to get clearance to load or discharge cargo and also carry out other activities. Vessel Waiting Time reduced from five hours (5hrs) to one hour (1hr).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-33380\" src=\"http:\/\/localhost:10003\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/ccc.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100%\" height=\"100%\" \/>Commenting on the matter, the Head of the Freight and Logistics Department of the Ghana Shippers\u2019 Authority (GSA), Mr. Fred Asiedu-Dartey cited the Ghana Shippers Awards as an example where individuals and groups in the sector are honoured for compliance among other things to encourage others to emulate the desirable conduct.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">\u201cThe Ghana Shippers Award has been instituted and we are putting in some mechanisms to ensure that shippers who are compliant in that regard are duly recognised\u201d, he noted.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-33382\" src=\"http:\/\/localhost:10003\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/ccc3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100%\" height=\"100%\" \/>He urged other African nations to learn and emulate best practices from each other as operational conditions of the sector are similar.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Engendering high compliance in the African shipping industry would greatly boost the fortunes of the sector, panellists at the Regional Maritime Stakeholder Conference on Global Best Practices in Vessel Clearance<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":33380,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_monsterinsights_skip_tracking":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[24],"tags":[129,747,1400,1541,1705,1821,1873],"class_list":["post-33379","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","tag-afcfta","tag-freight-and-logistics","tag-mr-fred-asiedu-dartey","tag-mr-moses-fadipe","tag-nigerias-shippers-council-nsc","tag-port-standing-task-team-pstt","tag-regional-maritime-stakeholder-conference"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v22.9 -
